Offline sources are datasets, or copies or backups of Exchange databases (EDB, STM, LOG files). Before you can Search, Recover, or Export any data, DigiScope must mount the associated files. When mounting an Exchange database set (EDB, STM, LOGs), you can choose to mount all of the mailboxes within the Offline source or just the mailboxes you wish to interact with.
DigiScope supports two different modes for mounting databases:
Normal Mount - DigiScope will attempt to roll up any available logs and bring make the database accessible in a normal way. This is the default mounting method and should be fine in most cases. However, if the database is damaged or in a dirty state, this method may be forced to perform a full database repair action. A database repair can be a lengthy process and can be further complicated if necessary log files are missing.
Forensic Mount - DigiScope will attempt to bypass any log rollup or repair actions and make the database accessible without modifying it. This mode is only available if the Enable Forensic Mount option is selected in DigiScope's Database Options.
NOTE: Files and folders containing Offline source files that have been compressed with the Windows operating system or other compression products will not be mountable. You must first decompress the files and folders associated with the Offline source before attempting to mount them.
