Mapped Drives

Mapped Drives are designated remote directories that the GOexchange Server may use in maintenance jobs.

Because the GOexchange Server runs under a special service account, it cannot rely on having access to any normal Windows user mapped drive or to the normal shares of remote machines.  Thus, it is necessary to configure GOexchange with its own Mapped Drive definitions for remote directories that it can reasonably expect to be able to access.

The main use for GOexchange's mapped drives is to have alternate locations for GOexchange Work Area directories.  For best performance, we recommend using local directories for Work Areas (and all other tasks) whenever possible.  However, if there isn't sufficient disk space on any local drive, these mapped drives may be used as a fallback.
