LUCID8 TO DEMONSTRATE NEW DIGISCOPE 2.0 E-DISCOVERY & RECOVERY FOR MICROSOFT EXCHANGE AT LEGALTECH

Enhanced discovery and export capabilities, simplified search results and more export options simplify legal review and analysis

BELLEVUE, Wash., February 4, 2008 - Lucid8 LLC, the company that that creates software products to increase reliability, improve efficiency, and provide e-discovery and recoverability for Microsoft® Exchange Server, announced today that it will be demonstrating its new DigiScope version 2.0 at LegalTech in New York, February 5 – 7 in Booth 3400 at the The Hilton New York Hotel.

With e-mail serving as the virtual ‘filing system’ in many corporate environments, the need to discover and recover historical, corrupted or deleted email items and their attachments has increased enormously. Whether required for compliance, legal proceedings, corporate intelligence, or end user support, the necessity of these capabilities has mushroomed. According to research from the Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG), email and attachments make up 77% of requested record types in legal proceedings or regulatory inquiries. Additionally, Lucid8’s own quick poll revealed that over 80% of IT respondents are tasked with restoring or exporting email related items several times each month.

DigiScope is a powerful, flexible, cost efficient and easy to use eDiscovery and Recovery solution that enables legal, compliance, human resource and IT administration professionals to accomplish e-mail related discovery and recovery tasks that meet their needs. DigiScope provides parties tasked with discovery actions the ability to search, find and export evidence stored in Exchange store backups, PST files and live Exchange servers. Further, DigiScope provides Exchange Administrators the ability to quickly and easily restore deleted or corrupted mailboxes, folders or individual message items to the live Exchange server from store backups.

Corporate counsel, legal and forensic, human resources, IT administrators and other professionals tasked with discovery proceedings have to work together to rapidly search, de-duplicate and export evidence from multiple Exchange Information Store Backups, PST files and live production Exchange Servers in order to comply with legal requirements and avoid hefty fines. Organizations that have implemented email archiving systems along with an eDiscovery option capable of searching the archive have certainly taken a step in the right direction. However, few if any have taken the time to ingest historic Exchange backups to ensure the archive is complete. DigiScope 2.0 delivers the features and capabilities to respond efficiently and cost effectively to the growing number of such electronic discovery requests and supports organizations to ingest historic Exchange backups into their archives.

“The features in DigiScope 2.0 come from our close work with—and commitment to—our diverse set of users,” said Troy Werelius, CEO of Lucid8. “When we introduced DigiScope last year, our mission was to make data recovery fast and effortless, and it did. Now it’s even better—with the ability to search and sort on a more granular level, open offline read-only copies of EDB files, optional de-duplication, data source repair and to control how search results are exported to PST’s—DigiScope’s ease of use and its comprehensive search and recovery options make data recovery even more straightforward, powerful and effort-saving than before.”

Some of the new features in DigiScope 2.0 are:

Physical De-Duplication – Queries can be executed across multiple data sources (such as backup copies of the same Exchange store or PST file) to find all relevant data in a single discovery pass. The De-Duplication process filters out copies of identical message items found in more than one data source, thereby ensuring that all data is found while reducing the amount of time-wasting duplicate data. Users can also sort the results by data source, further enhancing their ability to analyze the returned results.

PST structured export options – Users can export the search results in either a single PST file with multiple folders named by mailbox, or by saving into multiple PST files one for each mailbox.

Support for Outlook native viewers – DigiScope provides the ability to view messaging items without requiring the installation of Microsoft Outlook, however, if the end-user has Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2003 or 2007 installed, DigiScope will automatically utilize the native Outlook forms to view contact, calendar or email items, further enhancing the user experience by providing a familiar look and feel.

PST and EDB repair – Allows the user to execute repair functions against files that are not mountable or have been corrupted.

Read-only support for offline EDB files – Provides the user the ability to retain forensic integrity of the data source in order to avoid claims of evidence tampering. Additionally DigiScope now has the ability open read-only snapshot copies of Exchange Information Stores created by storage vendors.

Support for DigiVault 2.0 - Lucid8’s Continuous Data Protection (CDP) solution for Microsoft Exchange (to be released later this year)

DigiScope makes it easy to discover, recover and export important information quickly by providing the ability to:

  • create and reuse powerful and efficient queries to find email and attachments or track communication from current or previous users for legal compliance or other reasons;

  • selectively search common attachment types like PDF, DOC(X), XLS(X), PPT(X), XML and other text files;

  • use advanced expressions to find information matching specific patterns like a social security number, phone number or other elements;

  • recover specific mailboxes, folders, messages, contacts, appointments, or other Exchange related items that have been deleted and can't be retrieved via the deleted-items-recovery option;

  • move mailboxes from a failed server to an alternate server;

  • recover a public folder whose only copy has been deleted;

  • retrieve e-mail items that have become corrupt;

  • restore accidentally deleted mailboxes; and more.

Pricing and Licensing

DigiScope 2.0 will be available for purchase on or before March 31st 2008. Offering nearly twice the features of competitive products, its MSRP of $759 for an entry level 1-store pack (with unlimited mailboxes) is just half that of the closest competing product’s price. Purchases made between now and April 1st 2008 will benefit from DigiScope 2.0 features at DigiScope 1.x introductory prices of just $595 for one store.

To support customers who intend to upgrade to Microsoft Exchange 2007, which requires 64bit servers and new storage EDB files, Lucid8 will provide its customers with current maintenance agreements a one-time free store transfer license. “Customers already have enough hurdles to overcome when upgrading their Infrastructure to Exchange 2007. We don’t want DigiScope licensing issues to add another stumbling block to the already painful, costly, and time-consuming upgrade process,” Stated Said Christian Stark, Lucid8’s VP of Marketing and Business Development “Discovery requests issued by a court will require organizations to query their old 2000 and 2003 Exchange store backup EDB’s and the new ones created on 2007. And quite frankly, it’s not just e-mail anymore, it’s an asset and it’s evidence. With this onetime transfer option we enable customers to implement DigiScope today without having to worry about additional licensing costs once they upgrade to Exchange 2007.”
